You demand a LOT of yourself and I’m here to make sure you continue meeting those expectations

People say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks and I wholeheartedly disagree.

You don’t have to accept that your previously torn hamstring, old ankle sprain, or chronic lower back pain is your new normal. Bodies are build to adapt. Change is possible.

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

If your brain just exploded…

  • If you’re nodding your head thinking “I knew it!”…
  • If you’re eyes are filling with tears because you thought you’d never run/jump/sneeze confidently again…

You are in the right
place. I got you.

Your body is built to adapt. It’s part of human survival.
And your body adapts to the stimulus is receives most often.

Read that again.

AND ONE MORE TIME for the people in the back…

I know you’ve seen the top experts. I know this isn’t your first rodeo. And I know that you know that treating each body part in isolation isn’t working. If it were, you wouldn’t be reading my about page right now!

I exist between the boxes. I connect the dots. I find the imbalances and movement patterns in your body that are creating the dysfunction that feeds the cycle of pain.

I bridge the gap between clinicians and your peak performance.

THEN we get to disrupt these patterns with NEW stimuli for your body to create updated, functional movement patterns. Pain free.

Because that old ankle sprain? It’s related to the hamstring tear. And I want to make sure you don’t up with a torn ACL because you never fully, comprehensively rehabbed.

The gap between your provider and the stadium is too big right now. I close the gap using neuroplasticity to make your muscles work better.

Because part of the reason you’re here reading this, is not necessarily because you’re an old dog, it’s because you know it’s time to learn some new tricks.

I didn’t just study elite performance,

I live it

I’m Alissa Alter, and I performed on Broadway with a sprained ankle.

(Yes it was a bad idea.)

My classical Pilates and Ballet training draws from and reinforces my commitment to movement with integrity and a STRONG foundation.

Put those together with my 20+ year teaching career and it’s no surprise my work has drawn professional athletes (NFL, FIFA, MLS), Joffrey Ballet Dancers, Rockettes, SAHMs, and people who haven’t worked out ever ages 12-92 into my studio.

I experienced a bulging disc during my dance career after a particularly demanding production of Broadway’s Guys and Dolls. As I worked with my PT, I mentioned that I felt like the disc issue was a result of imbalance and instability in my pelvis. Her response? “Let me talk to you about the pelvic floor.”

This is when everything changed.

The more I learned about the pelvis, pelvic floor muscles, and their role in alignment and core stability the more dumbfounded I became that no one had ever mentioned this to me.

I started applying what I learned about the pelvic floor to ALL of my clients. I didn’t talk about it per se, but looked at global movements through a lens of biomechanics that no one else was using. Let’s call it the pelvic lens.

Suddenly people with chronic pain and persistent injury were pain and injury free. After one session.

Then the athletes came.

NFL, FIFA, MLS, Rockettes, Joffrey Ballet dancers, and all of them said the same thing…

“Why has no one else ever told me this?!”

Careers extended, deeper connections were made, and future injuries were avoided.

And now, here we are! Some people call me “The Amy Poehler of Vaginas” because of my insistence that integrating your pelvic floor will unlock your deepest power paired with the precision of my comedic timing.

This is what I mean when I talk about performance.

Performance isn’t just stadiums, stages, or podiums.

It’s how well your whole system runs and for how long.

It’s strength, endurance, integration and it’s bowel movements, bladder control, and sexual function.

It’s training hard and trusting your body under pressure — whether that’s a championship or an unexpected sneeze…

If your body can’t do the basics with ease, the rest is just an impressive workaround.

I train performance from the foundation up and the inside out so you can keep showing up at the level you demand of yourself.

My Timeline

Nothing is linear, like how I got here.

Jeremy Bearimy
1984
I started dancing and I haven’t stopped
1999
I started Pilates as part of the curriculum at my ballet academy. I hated it because it was hard and I wasn’t good at it. I preferred things I was good at!
2006
Received my classical Pilates certification from Romana’s Pilates at Drago’s in New York City aka “The Harvard of Pilates.” My thinking was that I didn’t want to wait to tables while dancing professionally and by teaching I would have access to the equipment myself AND I would be building something I care about.
2007
Taught my first private client outside of my studio jobs therefore starting my own business. It would take me…18 years to admit I am a business owner.
2007
I had my first professional injury. I sprained my ankle in Appleton, WI as a tap dancing egg in Nick Jr’s Backyardigans Live National Tour.
2009
I booked the revival of A Chorus Line! My literal dream come true. I finished that show with raging patellar tendonitis and couldn’t take the subway for six months because…stairs.
2012
Yes, that’s me tap dancing with Jonathan Groff 😉 ← That’s my downstage center with Jonathan at ~ 4:09
2012
Sustained a disc injury during Broadway’s Guys and Dolls that could have been career ending. Instead, it opened my eyes (and legs?) to the power of the pelvic floor. I was able to make a full recovery and come back stronger than ever and go on to perform all over the country.
2013
Returned to dance FULLY (no surgical intervention!) and through my rehabilitation realized that if I made sure my feet were working well, my back felt awesome.
2015
Booked a brand new musical heading for Broadway understudying one of the lead roles with one of the hottest creative teams in the industry.
2016
Quit Broadway and went full time teaching Pilates! I stopped working at boutique studios and high end gyms and started working solely for myself. I accidentally built a thriving business in New York City AND Brooklyn by word of mouth ← Yes, I’m that good.
2019
Gave birth to my first son rectovaginally…it’s worse than it sounds! My son tore my undercarriage and I’m forever thankful for my scope of knowledge regarding the pelvic floor, how muscles work, and how to recover from injury and return to movement.
2023
Gave birth to my second son via a beautiful elective cesarean in 2023. And yes, I listed both births as athletic feats because pregnancy alone is the same metabolic stress as an ultra marathon so birthing people are indeed elite athletes.
2025
Began a collaborative relationship with RWJBarnabas and Jersey City Medical Center’s Breast Health Oncology Department. I am proud to be creating programming for patients leaving active cancer treatment and transitioning into survivorship and thrivership.
2026
Doubling down on what I KNOW through education and lived experience about movement, rehabilitation, and the potential of the human body. And teaching that to YOU!

Sound like someone you know?

It’s time to trust yourself
and stop outsourcing
your instincts.

You don’t come to me because you don’t know anything about your body. You come to me because you know so much about your body and yes something is missing.

  • You listened to top experts
  • You ignored other top experts
  • Things got better for a period of time, but you’re right back where you started

This isn’t a willpower problem ← You don’t have those! This is an integration problem.

My work is built on a simple, radical idea…

You already know more about your body than you’ve been taught to trust.

Alissa looking awesome

I don’t override your instincts
with jargon or dogma.

They are the driver of our work. Yes, I am an expert in movement and performance, but YOU are the expert in you.

  • I am more interested in HOW you are moving than reps or failure
  • I see resistance as information to help you get better organized
  • I view compensatory patterns as your body’s way of protecting you from injury. My job is to find the vulnerable spots they are protecting.

Everything you feel in your body is data. We learn how to read it together.

Then we move strategically in order to…

  • Make sense of injuries that have been treated in isolation and build necessary bridges
  • Translate your body’s warnings before they turn into a five alarm fire
  • Build a body that actually responds to what you need

This is not about following me.
It’s about finally hearing yourself clearly.
